Ask the Experts: Virgin Spaceport Opens

Never one to miss an action-adventure photo opportunity, Sir Richard Branson abseiled down the outside of the Spaceport America during its opening ceremony last week, bottle of champagne in hand.

The event in New Mexico welcomed the eight hundred guests invited to attend the Spaceport dedication ceremony, and included Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and one hundred and fifty would-be astronauts who have already paid their deposit for the flight.

During the ceremony Richard Branson declared the unique, purpose-built terminal as the “Virgin Galactic Gateway to Space.”   Guests were also treated to a flyover from the Virgin Galactic WhiteKnightTwo, the mother ship for SpaceShipTwo that will be the first vehicle to transport tourists into space.
